About Ben


Ben Kreimer is an independent journalism technologist telling stories with drones, virtual reality, 360° video, spatial audio, 3D reconstructions, and open source sensor platforms. He helps storytellers, mission-driven organizations and projects leverage these emerging technologies for telling stories and amplifying their work. Ben introduced 360° video to BuzzFeed as the Beta Fellow in their Open Lab, a media research and development space. He co-produced many of BuzzFeed’s 360° videos, including their first, which has received over six million views.

Ben is also an adviser for the Drone Journalism Lab, has given training courses for the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, and guest lectured at Yale, Stanford, NYU, UC Berkeley, and other universities. Ben takes an interdisciplinary approach to his work with academic institutions and organizations, which have included USC Annenberg, African skyCAM, Columbia’s Tow Center for Digital Journalism, The Times of India, CCTV Africa, The Star (Kenya), VICE News, the USA Today Network, African Wildlife Foundation, SecondMuse and its innovation platform LAUNCH, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade innovationXchange, Fusion, Electric South (South Africa), and the Antiochia ad Cragum Archaeological Research Project in Turkey.
