Ben’s work entitled “Which Came First?” appeared in the 2013 sound art exhibition “Hammer, Anvil, Stirrup: People Make Things That Make Sounds” at the Lux Art Gallery in Lincoln, NE.
“Which Came First?” is a product of cross-pollinating interests in sound, microcomputing and the creation of objects that interact with the user. Art and performance that requires audience participation creates a unique bond between the producer and consumer; Which Came First? requires the individual to put on the shoes and walk around the eggs to make them come to life. This egg-human performance interaction occurs with the assistance of an Arduino microcomputer and light sensors in the shoes’ heels.
